Workplace violence is any act against any employee that creates a hostile work environment and negatively affects the employee physically or psychologically.

Coercion and intimidation are not forms of workplace violence.

Most workplace violence incidents are reported.

Employers should have a bypass mechanism in place for employees to report workplace violence anonymously.

Employers cannot prevent workplace violence.

Employee training exercises and drills should be conducted to test the Emergency Action Plan.

Individual roles and responsibilities should be a part of the Emergency Action Plan.

Employers must train permanent employees, but do not have to train temporary employees.

Employers are liable for on-the-job injuries but are not liable for workplace violence.

Employees do not need to be trained on use of emergency equipment.
