OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (BPS) sets out the requirements for protecting workers from potentially infectious items. Employers are responsible for preventing and controlling infectious diseases and managing personnel health and safety concerns related to infection control in the workplace. Any company with employees that may encounter blood or other potentially infectious body fluids in their job must adhere to OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. This program is written to promote the health and safety of employees by providing information that can be used to prevent the contraction and spread of communicable diseases and the appropriate response to a communicable disease outbreak.
