Infection Prevention Coordinator Training

Learn how to assess the dental practice’s current infection prevention practices in order to determine where improvement needs to occur to protect not only dental health care personnel, but also patients. This course is relevant to dentists, dental staff, anyone responsible for infection prevention in their workplace

According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), transmission of infectious agents among patients and dental health care personnel in dental settings can be prevented by observing Standard Precautions and other infection prevention practices. The 2003 CDC Guidelines for Dentistry were reviewed by the CDC and a Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Settings (the Summary) was issued in March 2016. The CDC recommends that dental practices review their infection prevention practices on a regular basis by appointing an Infection Prevention Coordinator (IFC) to assume this responsibility. This course will review the responsibilities of the IFC using the CDC’s Infection Prevention Checklist which is a part of the Summary. The IPC should ensure that equipment and supplies, which includes hand hygiene products, safer devices to reduce percutaneous injuries, and personal protective equipment, are available. The IFC should also maintain communication with all staff members to address specific issues or concerns related to infection prevention.

Dental Compliance: Understanding the Liabilities Associated with Chairside Services

As the dentist or the dental lab owner, do you understand the liabilities that exist when services, such as, all-on-four, guidance for custom implant abutment, shade taking or making adjustments/repairs (just to name a few), are provided?

The services being provided to dentists by outside contractors continues to become more needed and more extensive. Patient demands, product availability, and technology are some of the factors that have driven the need by dentists for expanded services by dental technicians. Pre-planning is critical to establishing a relationship for these services that defines and limits liability on both sides and meets the existing dental compliance laws. Learn what types of services are being provided, including all on fours or custom abutment guidance, the issues to be addressed by the parties prior to entering into the arrangements, the regulatory/legal considerations, and the regulatory compliance training needed.

What You Need to Know About Respirators and Confined Spaces

Are your workers some of the estimated 5 million workers who are required to wear respirators in U.S. workplaces? The Silica Standard could require more employers to require respirators in their workplace, therefore, this course will assist employers with a better understanding of the requirements of OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard. Respirators are also required to protect workers from hazardous atmosphere which could include insufficient oxygen environments that can be found in confined spaces. This course will help employers identify if OSHA’s Confined Space Entry requirements apply to their workplace and how to protect their workers from these hazards.

Silica is present in many products used in general industry and now there’s strong evidence the former exposure limits do not adequately protect worker health. In response, for the first time in 40 years, OSHA has issued new silica standards. This course will provide a clear understanding of the new OSHA silica standards, discuss the health effects of over-exposure to silica, determine the routes of exposure in the work environment and how to control exposure, plus give guidance on the development of the required written Silica Exposure Control Plan. The deadline for employer compliance with the new 1910.1053 Respirable Silica Standard is June 2018.

Fall Protection Training

Fall protection is important because it saves lives! According to the Bureau of Labor statistics falls are among the most common causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths. At the end of FY2016 BLS reported that workplace fatalities increased by 7% from the prior year. In that fiscal year, BLS reported that over one-third of workplace fatalities for construction workers resulted in death due to falls. Slips, trips, and falls make up most of general industry accidents. Employers must take measures in their workplaces to prevent employees from falling off overhead platforms or elevated work stations or into holes in the floor and walls. OSHA requires that fall protection be provided at elevations of four feet in general industry workplaces, five feet in shipyards, six feet in the construction industry and eight feet in longshoring operations. In addition, OSHA requires that fall protection be provided when working over dangerous equipment and machinery, regardless of the fall distance. In this course, you will learn:

  • How to identify types of fall hazards within the workplace,
  • Recognize methods to eliminate or protect against fall hazards
  • Examine components of a Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS)
  • Review employer/employee responsibilities

Using Your Lab Quality System to Reduce External and Internal Remakes

The effectiveness of your dental lab Quality System can be measured in many ways, but the primary factor is how you reduce customer complaints. Documenting them is required, however, how you follow through with corrective action is the determining factor for reducing the dental lab cost of remakes. There are national average remake numbers available through various sources, but if you use those numbers as a comparison of your remakes how do you know you’re comparing apples to apples? This course will take you through methods that will provide you with a true picture of how to handle customer complaints, and how to use CAPA, as well as cover the Medical Device Reporting Requirements for documenting complaints against Class II devices. This is a pre-recorded webinar. Please disregard any reference to submitting Course # in the presentation to request continuing education credit.

Improving Your Quality Output

It’s all about effective problem solving techniques. One of the components of a Quality System is the documentation of complaints and nonconforming product. You may have methods in place for this type of documentation, but how are you using that documentation to solve problems? Non-conformances could be remakes, complaints from your dental clients, and internal reworks. The method you use to get to the root of your lab’s recurring problems can make the difference in your profitability. In this webinar you’ll learn how to identify, evaluate, and implement optimum solutions while complying with FDA’s corrective action process. This is a pre-recorded webinar. Please disregard the reference to submitting Course # in the presentation to request continuing education credit.
